Malaysia's Solar Demand Set to Increase Following New Government Policies

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – February 11, 2025

Malaysia is poised to experience a significant surge in solar energy demand, driven by new government policies introduced last year aimed at expanding access to renewable energy. Khirul Nizam, Strategic Partnerships and Business Development Lead at Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)’s New Energy Division, stated that these policies are expected to accelerate the country’s adoption of solar power.

The government’s initiatives include incentives for residential and commercial solar installations, streamlined approval processes, and investment in grid infrastructure to accommodate increased renewable energy inputs. These measures align with Malaysia’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning toward a more sustainable energy mix.

As a result, industry stakeholders anticipate growth in the solar sector, presenting opportunities for local and international investors and contributing to Malaysia’s economic development and environmental sustainability goals.
